The recent senseless killings of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, and Ahmaud Arbery are the latest tragic manifestation of racism and injustice that has plagued Black communities for generations. Institutional racism has been the fabric of America for over 400 years, and time is up. We stand in solidarity with Black Lives Matter to annihilate the extreme inequalities that permeate every aspect of life for Black people.

We acknowledge that NEDA has fallen short in ensuring that we are a reflection of the community we serve. We pledge to immediately increase our focus to amplify and engage Black communities within the mental health, eating disorder communities, and beyond.

NEDA will seek guidance from Black civil rights thought-leaders and experts, and those in our community with lived experience, on ways we can better serve, honor, and elevate Black communities. We are reviewing and evaluating our internal systems, programs, and resources. We are finding ways to ensure we are not only inclusive but that we are contributing to creating a more equitable society. This will be a sustained effort for NEDA that will continue to evolve and expand.
