LGBTQ+ Male Model Ryan Sheldon Joins Iskra Lawrence as a National Eating Disorders Association Ambassador

NEW YORK CITY  — October 18, 2018  — The National Eating Disorders Association  (NEDA), the largest nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting individuals and families affected by eating disorders, announced the appointment of Ryan Sheldon as a NEDA Ambassador. Sheldon is a motivational speaker and brawn model that has been educating audiences about body image and binge eating disorder since his diagnosis on 2015.

“NEDA is like a family to me; a family that understood what I was going through at my lowest point,” Sheldon said. “Being a NEDA Ambassador is so much more than a title for me, it’s a realization that change is coming to the eating disorders community.”

Through his Instagram account @bingeeaterconfessions  and his blog, Ryan provides motivational messages about self love, acceptance and body image. As a LGBTQ+ man in a higher weight body, Ryan also speaks to teens about issues regarding masculinity, identity and body confidence. His passion for raising awareness around binge eating disorder and body image as a NEDA Ambassador has motivated him to share his stories on national media outlets with hopes of inspiring others. Sheldon is currently working on a book about his and other men’s experiences learning to eat mindfully and love themselves as they are.

NEDA Ambassadors are changemakers and advocates who use their personal experiences and platforms to raise awareness of eating disorders, combat diet culture and promote body acceptance. He joins model Iskra Lawrence, former MLB catcher Mike Marjama, and Instagram influencer Gina Susanna as a NEDA Ambassador.

“Ryan’s work is motivational for anybody who’s in the pursuit of self-love and acceptance,” said Claire Mysko, CEO of NEDA. “We hope his presence represents how all people, no matter their gender identity and sexual orientation, have a voice in our community.”
